BOOKING TRAVEL FOR ACADEMY 2019

2019 Academy Week will be held on the beautiful Biola University campus, located 30 miles outside of Los Angeles in La Mirada, CA. All events and lodging are on campus, so there will be no need to rent a car. We provide arrival shuttles on Monday from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Biola, and a return shuttle on Friday from Biola back to LAX. You can also be dropped off or drive a car to campus. 

You will need to submit your travel plans in the On-Boarding Survey between May 28 - June 17.

SHUTTLES FROM THE AIRPORT TO CAMPUS

For those wishing to take advantage of our shuttles to campus, ground transportation is provided from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at the beginning of the event and at the end. Note: if you are a part of the Latin America or Africa Cohort, you will be booking your flights at different times — please see the additional note below.

In order to arrive on time for the event kickoff, and back to the airport with enough time to catch your departing flight, you must book in the following time-frames to take advantage of the shuttles. If you do not book in these time frames, you will need to arrange your own ground transportation to campus.

ARRIVAL FLIGHTS
Arrive at LAX Airport by 12:00pm Pacific Time on Monday, July 29, 2019

*if you absolutely cannot book a flight in by 12pm PT (i.e. an international flight that arrives at 12:45pm), please consult us before you book your travel by emailing us at academy@praxislabs.org. We will do our best to accommodate international flights, as we understand schedules can be difficult.

DEPARTING FLIGHTS
Depart from LAX Airport after 5:00pm Pacific Time on Friday, August 2, 2019

Please note that regardless of your departure time, all students must check out of their campus housing by 1:00pm on Friday August 2, 2019, and we have to leave campus by 3:00pm.

DRIVING OR ARRIVING TO LA BY BUS OR TRAIN
For those arriving by bus or train to L.A., we recommend finding a way to get to LAX Airport by 12:00pm PT so you can make the airport shuttle. You may also take local transportation and arrive on campus on your own.

We are excited to be hosting a Cohort of young leaders from Latin America and another from throughout Africa at Academy 2019. If you are a part of one of these Cohort groups, you have a slightly different schedule before and after the event, and need to book your flights in a different time window:

Enter campus via University Drive from La Mirada Boulevard. Turn right onto Horton Way and check-in at registration in Sigma Hall on your right. Registration and check-in is open 1:00-3:00pm on Monday 7/29, and the event begins at 4:00pm.

PARKING
On campus parking is free -- just let us know at check-in so we can get you a permit to leave in your car for the week.  Parking is in Structure S, located on University Drive near the soccer field and track. 


 

LODGING & Meals

LODGING 
Lodging is reserved for you on campus. You can expect multiple-occupancy in updated, apartment style dorm rooms with air conditioning. You will have an option to submit roommate preferences in your on-boarding/travel preference survey. 

MEALS & SNACKS
For the duration of the event -- starting with dinner on Monday and ending with lunch on Friday -- all of your meals will be provided on campus. In addition, we try to provide beverages and snacks to keep you energized and focused throughout the event. Biola does have a coffee and snack shop with limited hours where you can purchase additional food if you'd like.  

While most of the meals will be in the cafe and you'll choose your own food -- we may have some sessions that require us to order a specific meal for you. Please provide any food allergies or serious dietary restrictions in your on-boarding survey. 

ACCESSIBILITY & MOBILITY

Please notify us through the on-boarding survey of any accessibility needs so that we can prepare a seamless experience for you. While we will be on campus for the duration of the event, there is a significant amount of moving between venues throughout each day.
